SKArating Retail is for retail shop and restaurant interior fit-out and refurbishment projects, from single units to national roll-outs. It recognises the pace and repeatability of retail programmes, so good practice can be built into a format once and carried across every branded store. It is equally sustainable for independent store-owners who might be more limited with team size and resources.

Retail v1.0 is live today. The existing scheme is heading towards an update to bring it in line with the Offices Environmental 2.0 scheme. The Social & Wellbeing and Economics & Value schemes are pending sector feedback from the Retail Steering Committee.

Retail Sector Steering Committee

Each scheme is guided by a Sector Steering (or Development) Committee and sustainability Technical Committees. Between them, they bring together clients, designers, consultants, contractors, engineers and industry bodies, who keep the scheme grounded in real sector practice and push it to drive genuine performance change.

The Retail & Restaurants committee has up to 12 members who work in the sector, from real estate and fit-out to operations, procurement and sustainability. Appointed by the SKArating Board, it advises on sector needs across all three pillars, reviews proposed impact categories and Good Practice Measures for how well they’ll work in practice, recommends development priorities and helps the schemes reach the wider sector.
